All internet users have installed on their laptops or PCs at least on chat program and all of them are using chat symbols in their conversations. The most important advantage of these special symbols is that they can be used in all chat programs, no matter if we are talking about Facebook chat, Yahoo chat, AIM or MSN. This emoticon is a classic one, it’s very easy to use and it can be used in many situations. The second common emoticon is the sad face, which has the shortcut represented by :( and you can use it when you want to show your friends that you had a bad day or that you are sad. The last common emoticon that is available in all chat programs is represented by the wink smiley. Its shortcut is ;) and you can use this emoticon in many situations. Just make sure that your interlocutor understands the message that you’re trying to send.

The second category of chat symbols is composed by keyboard symbols. There are many people that wonder how others can introduce in their conversations different cool symbols such as spades, arrows and many others. These symbols are represented by alt codes and if you want to obtain alt characters you just have to go in the Start menu, choose the Character Map utility and press the Alt key in order to copy the symbol that you like most.

Both the first and second category of chat symbols can be used in all chat programs. I’m sure that not so many people knew about the existence of those keyboard symbols.
